Appearance¶
6'1", about 182#. Medium build with swashbuckling bearing; skilled with rapier and light arms.
Hair and face: Dark brown hair, neatly styled and swept back with volume on top, shorter at the sides. Short, well-groomed dark beard and mustache. Strong features — defined jawline, straight nose, fair to light olive complexion. Dark brown eyes with a direct, serious gaze and gold flecks distinctive enough to identify him years later (Ch 47). Handsome — noted by Bella and others (Ch 39).
Typical dress: Practical brown leather armor — fitted vest or tunic with studded closure, large leather pauldrons with metal accents, chainmail sleeves, diagonal leather chest straps, belt with metal buckle, and dark leather bracers. Worn fighting gear rather than court finery.

Background¶
Matthew Kincaid is a college freshman from Newtown, Ohio (OP), with a fencing scholarship toward Harvard law. SCA participant; D&D class Rogue. Girlfriend Miriam (~six weeks) at crossing. He awakens on Story Day 1 as Matthias in the Grinning Griffin after failing Kranos's mind-control geis, alongside Miriam as Miri.
Dual patron pressures define early Part 01: Kranos the Arcane (deadly ultimatum, geis) and Tranos (marriage bargain to Lilia). Matthew/Matthias cooperates with both plots while seeking the snowglobe anchor and a path home — then commits to remaining in Nystria (Day 11).
He marries Lilia (Day 13), is created Count, and receives Newtown—Langford Manor/Compound, woods from Fulham walls to the sea, fourteen farms on the Royal Way, plus Sierra's pledged farm. Jorah serves as steward (Day 20). Kranos's hoard is found Day 24; death taxes paid to the Crown. Tranos removes the geis from the snowglobe (Day 39). King Edward expands the grant into County Hamilton (Day 57); Milos is named Sheriff. Danian scout caves are cleared (Days 52–56); windmill patent and infrastructure patents follow.
Personality¶
Charismatic rogue turned responsible lord. Pragmatic about politics (Edward/Ludwig regicide plot, Robert alliance) while pushing modernization — windmills, forge work, legal reform — at a pace Tristan and Miri counsel. Declines taking further maidens by title unless freely given (Day 18). Agrees to consult Miri before major technology introductions (Day 31).
